KANE live @ ADO The Hague!

It was April fools day... so you know things can get a little bit tricky today... but then we could read up on this update from Dinand on the KANE hyves:

'Guys, you'd be up for something special this summer? Something we've never done before?... Just got a phone call from soccer club ADO with the question if we would like to check out if their soccer stadium is suited to play gigs in... ' that was the vibe of the conversation a few months ago between them and our management. It's true, we were dreaming of doing this for ages; talks with the ADO soccer club had been going on for years, but for some reason just not made real. So no gig when ADO left Zuiderpark and no gig when the new stadium opened...

But now it's made real!!! If we were free to play a gig on Saturday the 6th of June at the ADO stadium was the question. Three times lucky it is. 'So you guys will come to check out the stadium this summer?', the question was. The answer is YES! But the fans get the scoop first and afterwards the world...
So... We'll be doing our biggest gig of the year right here at home, and we'll be trying out some New tracks of the New album as well. It'll be an intimate gig. KANE & the audiance, at home in The Hague. Message to the fans here and abroad; we really want you guys to be a part of this and get first access to the tickets as there will not be many available. Check Dutch newspaper het Algemeen Dagblad, KANE hyves and your mailbox with our newsletter tomorrow.

This ain't no joke... Ha, ha, We're gonna play!!! KANE, ADO, THE HAGUE.. On a beautiful summer day!

Your reporter of the day,

D.

KANE on their new album EVERYTHINGYOUWANT

In light of the release of their new album EVERYTHINGYOUWANT both lead singer Dinand Woesthoff and guitarist Dennis van Leeuwen tell about the album.

--------------

“Reflecting on it I can say we made a free fall the past 2 years. In making this album we use a totally different approach then we used to. EVERYTHINGYOUWANT is cocky, in your face but above all pleasure driven.” Dinand Woesthoff

Fearless, the previous album, and it’s legacy didn’t make it easy for us as a band and personal due to the emotions involved. We’ve closed that door for good now. Dinand: “how a record should sound like is being controlled by your own mind. The essence of KANE has always been: we want to create music, with bucketloads of energy, passion and fun. That hasn’t changed. After Fearless we felt the urge to record a new album which has been driven by pleasure.”

Another factor that’s been of importance is the fact that Dinand opened up himself to influences from outside. “Before I wanted to be in control”, the singer tells, “ I would go like: what? Write songs with others? Are you insane?!”. The guys now embrace new influences and therefore surround themselves with a new flow. Dennis van Leeuwen: We’ve been searching for new things, people, locations that would inspire and motivate us. Our quest lead us to several places, amongst them the States.”

The rumour that KANE recorded the album abroad to conquer the world isn’t true. Dennis: “That’s not a priority at this moment. The past year we’ve been focusing on bringing out the best in ourselves, with some help of other music minded friends. We found them in Holland and in Amerika.”

The new KANE album has been recorded for the most part in New York. The guys got help from producer Scott Jacoby and the city that never sleeps turned out as a source of inspiration for EVERYTHINGOUWANT.

Although recording in NY wasn’t an obvious choice. “I visited the city before. Pavement jungle, shitload of bricks”, Dinand tells. “But this time I got a real taste of the city and immediately was swept away by the drive you feel there. Everybody is on a mission or making it’s dream come true and that drive reflects on the overall mood. The city is just alive. The fact the album sounds like it does has a lot to do with that drive. I just had to write a song about it: New York City Soul. I called up the others and said: I haven’t got anything, just a title and now we’re going to make a track.

That turned out to be the key for the new album, doing everything in reverse. When Dennis and Dinand decided to make the jump and set no boundaries for themselves they really jumped in and let go. The record deal with their record company had ended but they didn’t close a new one with another record company. They decided to start up their own company KANE Records. After a while they signed with Universal Music.

And that wasn’t the only unconventional aspect during the recording of EVERYTHINGYOUWANT. “We’ve written tracks in Los Angeles, in Philadelphia and in New York. Three totally different cities with their own unique vibe. That resulted in tracks that are urban, dance, rock, soul and even gospel orientated. We’ve never said to each other: that’s enough for an album. We’ve kept on writing and writing to reach new levels” both KANE guys explain.

Dinand: “we’ve turned around the whole recording process. Not intentionally, it just happened. A few demo’s were added without any enhancement onto the new album. It’s a huge enrichment to say: we don’t know where we’re heading but we don’t care. And when it turns out the things you realised are exactly what you stand for and are feeling you get a huge kick!” KANE had created about 50 ideas/tracks and only those tracks that survived their creative whirlwind landed on EVERYTHINGYOUWANT. During the selection process Dinand thought: “With each track that makes the album I’ve got to go: damn I want to be in that band! And Dennis thought: “With each track I’ve got to have the feeling: I want to buy that album!” That vibe made it very diverse tracklisting.

Just take the first single Catwalk Criminal and it’s follower up Shot Of A Gun. ‘Catwalk Criminal’ kicks in. Puts you on the wrong track. It’s a dirty sexy track about animal attraction. A bold statement as a first single: “Listen up, dit is onze nieuwe sound’. But that doesn’t have to say there isn’t any room for tracks like ‘Shot Of A Gun’. Dinand: “Shot Of A Gun is a comfort song. In comparison to ‘Catwalk Criminal’ it tells listeners the legacy of KANE. This track is so entwined with the past and the new. The song, which was recorded Los Angeles, is the most symbolic on the album on which isn’t much room for romance. Dinand: “Like all KANE albums EVERYTHINGYOUWANT is a very personal album.

It’s personal because it reflects our positive flow. This album tells about relationships, love but above all lust and danger. The sound is cocky and in your face.” Wanna Make It Happen is the dirty rock track of the album. The track R.E.A.L clearly has got the ‘we’re the kings of the world’ attitude and shows KANE hasn’t lost their bravado. Are You Feeling It? is beatdriven, with an urge for freedom and freedom of speech and titeltrack EVERYTHINGYOUWANT is the most electrorock of all, more so then ‘Catwalk Criminal’.

EVERYTHINGYOUWANT is KANE’s rock ‘n soul album. Thanks to producer Scott Jacoby. More a nu soul man who’s never made a rock album. No problem for KANE. “He did what he’s good at and we did the same on our part. We surrounded ourselves with the likes of Scott Jacoby, Neil Dorfsmann, Gail Ann Dorsey and Sterling Campbell who play in David Bowie’s band, and brought a lot of Soul to the new album. Mindblowing feeling! When you start working on a new album and say: I’m gonna make a rock album, it’ll turn out a rock album. If you allow in all possibilities it can turn out to be whatever you want, everythingyouwant”.

EVERYTHING YOU WANT

It are crazy times: Dennis and I started about two years ago with the preparations for the fourth KANE album. No clue where we were headed, but a very clear view on what had to be different. Someone once said to me: if you want change, you’ll need the courage to change yourself: making a dream come reality starts inside you. And that’s how it goes. So we let go and jumped: KANE records was born. From this point on we’re an independent. Afterwards we chose Universal music to join us in our adventure. And that’s a good thing. Good feeling that there are record companies that still find the word ‘music’ in ‘musicbizznizz’ important. It only makes us more powerful right here in the Benelux.

‘EVERYTHING YOU WANT’ is our fourth album: on Wednesday the 9th of May you’ll find it in (Dutch) stores.

Eleven tracks… the best ones that survived the kill your darlings sessions the past two years: ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’ did make the final tracklist… and so did ‘I Belong To You’…ofcours… the others didn’t: 9 to go!!! The feedback we got from those who had the chance to listen to the new album (still just on a demo recording) for the first time this week are amazing. The best KANE album up until now.

Still on the agenda: recording lyrics for the final three tracks, then back to New York to finish everything of. It should be ready by Monday the 7th of April. On its way to you guys!

Just let us know what you think about ‘Shot Of A Gun’. Use the internet and our pages on Hyves, KANE.NL (for the official breaking news)… Myspace and YouTube for all the interactive talks… with you guys.

Enjoy yourselves,

D.

KANE's favourite...

-----------------

This month there’s an interview with the guys from KANE to be found in Dutch online magazine Bomvol in which they talk about their favourite cities. Whether it’s NY where their new album was recorded or hometown Delft where their own studio has its location, each city has got that special thing the guys need to be creative and at ease …

Unfortunately the interviews are in Dutch but you might get the vibe of the cities who are totally KANE-approved as you watch the guys talking about them…

BACK ON TRACK WITH ANOTHER FUNKY RHYME

BACK ON TRACK WITH ANOTHER FUNKY RHYME ... which means there’s some mayhem going on.

Dinand wrote a new update on the official KANE hyves:

Gotta say good for the mayhem, but it’s some crazy shit this time. We’re working in at least two different places at the same time on the new album. Primarily New York and Delft alternated with Ibiza, Los Angeles, London and… my back yard ha, ha. Ja, life is tough. At the moment we’ve got a studio build in my garden shed. Meanwhile Dennis is hard at work at the Delft studio. So everybody’s working like nutters but it seems like we’ll make our deadlines. Consequence of that is we’re all in our own little worlds these days. Totally focused on details and o fuck… got to finish those lyrics today. Once and a while we’re pulled back into the reality of the KANE bizznizz. Like deadlines, designs, releases… and ticket sales.

I’ll get back to that in a minute. First let’s talk releases. The next KANE single will be ‘SHOT OF A GUN’. We shot the video for that single last week in Los Angeles and Brussels. In a few weeks you’ll get it in your face. We’re extremely happy with the reactions on our first release ‘CATWALK CRIMINAL’. YouTube got over 125.000 views in 1 month and with an entry at number 2 in the charts we made a cool start I think. Like always, very sincerely, Thanx to and for your support!!! Heading to ‘SHOT OF A GUN’ followed by... that fourth KANE cd. I’m in to deep to talk to much about it but it’s hard when you’ve got 45 songs and knowing there will be only 12 songs on the album. ‘Kill your Darlings’. I’m getting emotional now ha, ha.

And after we announced the try-out show in The Hague we received a lot of messages and phone calls regarding the chaotic presale. Honestly, seemed nice to do a gig in our hometown before the album was released. Seemed a good plan to a lot of folks, because a few seconds after the tickets got into presale the sever of the website crashed and tickets were sold out at about 11:20. This mayhem is wicked to a band and their ego’s; it’s mostly chaos for those who didn’t get their hands on those tickets. I apologize for the stress people.

At the moment we’re looking into doing more shows. Might be a small tour in 8 city’s, we’ll see. That’s been a long time for us. Not really on topic but seeing the chaos last Saturday that little tour would be something that’s called for. For those that did manage to get tickets for the The Hague venue… we’ll see you there. For those without a ticket. We hope to see you soon, not to long after the 23th!!!

Thnxxx and adios, D.

BACK IN WISSELOORD

On Saturday Dennis wrote a new update:

I already mentioned Scott, our producer, is in town these days. Primarily to check the recordings made in New York and to extract the best ones. But today we’re also recording some guitars in a familiar spot: The Wisseloord studios in Hilversum. Got a funny story about that place to tell you guys: our engineer back in New York (Neil Dorfsmann) once worked on the famous Hysteria record of Def Leppard right here at the Wisseloord studios for months alongside the legendary producer Mutt Lange, husband of the lovely Shania Twain (name dropping, got good at that ever since we’ve been in NY…) Neil told us the Wisseloord studio got his name from that legendary recording session. It lasted a staggering three years. The producer insisted the guitars were recorded string by string and drums had to be recorded at the nearby swimming pool because the sound was awesome. Those were the days. I suggested we’d do the same shit but unfortunately nobody fell for that… Anyway, at the Wisseloord we’re on known territory because here’s where we recorded the 'As Long As You Want This' album and the 'What if' was remixed here by Tim Palmer. Mind blowing exciting sessions of table tennis were played here during breaks with Tim. All won by us, off course. And b-sides, one with the longest title ever: 'Christmas Time Won't Be The Same Without You But Maybe Next Year It Will', and 'Moment Of Truth', were recorded here. Good to be back.

Two days later and three songs more… Today’s Saturday and single 2 is almost finished. Everybody’s exited! Sounds awesome. But we got a tight schedule and we’re now working on track 4. Meanwhile girlfriends, buddies, record company friends, publishing mates and visual artists drop in. Amongst them also Reyn, friend of the family, who showcased some string-music. Great to record back in Holland but at the same time so we’ve got so much distraction. So different then recording in a studio on a mountain near Woodstock in New York, where you gotta take in groceries for the whole weeks or take a stroll for two hours to get that milk you wanted. To be continued!

Greetz, dennis

2nd time live for KANE!!!

On the KANE myspace we can read up on a new update from Dennis:

Yesterday we played live at the show of Paul de Leeuw for the very first time in KANE history. Must admit, not bad at all. Just watched the show on tape and damn that new firebird I gave myself as a birthday present sounded awesome! ;-)

Gotta thank you guys as well for our number 2 entry in the charts! Dinand already thanked you guys but have to join in here too! Great. Really close finish there (2%!!!) so we’d almost popped the cork of the champagne bottle. In any case we’d better wait with doing that until the second single will be released, another part for sure! Really great you were there once again supporting us like you did. Think CATWALK CRIMINAL got a hold on you guys now doesn’t it. Took some time, no prob. We already knew the song for a while. Once again, thanks for the support!

This week it’s working back at home in The Netherlands. Producer Scott Jacoby should be stepping out the airplane as I write this. Dinand and Scott will take a listen at the recordings made at the All Aire Studio and we’ll record some additional tracks. We’re slowly finishing that recording proces. Still should take a while I guess what’s always exciting I think. But one thing’s for sure. It’s gonna be one hell of a record!

Ok have a nice day and see you soon! Gr, dennis

CATWALK CRIMINAL AT #2 IN MIDWEEK CHART!

In the KANE newsletter we can read:

After two weeks of recording intensly at the All Aire Studios near Woodstock in upstate New York we finally came back home yesterday. Weird to be out of the country at the time your new single is being released. But this morning we got a text message from Universal with some good news! Catwalk criminal, our new single, has reached the #2 position in the Dutch midweek chart. That’s amazing! But a real chart entry hasn’t been made… we’re counting on FRIDAY! And we can already say we’re really really close to that magical #1 position.

If enough Dutch fans buy the single before Friday the guys can make it to that #1 position. Hope they got that champagne on ice...

Dinand Woesthoff raises awareness…

A few days after Belgian tv-presenter Chris Duchauchoit made an emotional appeal to polticians in Belgium regarding the BBC-documentairy ‘Bulgaria’s abandoned children’ there we see Dinand Woesthoff of Dutch rockband KANE joining forces to raise awareness for the inhuman living conditions of these abandoned children. Dinand called upon several Dutch politicians by writing them emails to start immediate action against Bulgaria. After watching the BBC-television documentairy ‘Bulgaria’s abandoned children‘, Woesthoff (still recording in Amerika) send out emails to Jan Marijnissen from the Dutch SP party and Femke Halsema of the Dutch GroenLinks party. In the documentairy it’s shown how handicapt together with poor children are being cared for in dreadfull conditions in an orphanage in Bulgaria. The GroenLinks party has already started debats on this topic and started an online-petition against the inhuman conditions in orphans’ homes like these. The party will hand over the results of the petitions to the European Union.

Check out the documentairy on http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9176914173325307126 to sign the Dutch Groenlinks petition check http://campagne.groenlinks.nl/bulgarije and for all further info check http://www.tbact.org/
